San Diego, CALIF. – September 8, 2009 – Anakam announced today that Chief Medical Officer, Dr. William “Bill” Braithwaite, will co-chair the four-day National HIPAA Summit being held at the Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. on September 15-18th, 2009. Dr. Braithwaite is an internationally respected expert on health information technology and an author of the HIPAA Administrative Simplification law. Affectionately known as “Doctor HIPAA,” he is a pioneer in the field of medical informatics and a frequent speaker and major contributor to federal HIT regulations and standards.

Attending the 2009 HIPAA Summit, as well as participating on the internet, will be hundreds of clinicians, health information experts, vendors and compliance professionals seeking to better understand evolving HIPAA regulations. The HITECH Act of 2009 provides the impetus and funding to roll out Electronic Health Records (EHRs) nationwide, but it also ramps up the HIPAA requirements to protect each patient’s privacy and security. That makes this year’s National HIPAA Summit both a timely and very important event.

During the opening session of the Summit on September 16th, Dr. Braithwaite will give a keynote address on “The Role of Privacy, Security and Health Information Exchange in Health Reform.” Throughout the conference, Dr. Braithwaite will be available to discuss relevant topics such as privacy requirement changes in the stimulus package, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) security recommendations and implementation strategies, as well as challenges for the regulations.
